Norway is making strides in sustainability. The country plans to ban cars and trucks running on diesel or petrol by 2025. Truckers driving these cars will no longer enter the country. The plans for the ban are listed in the National Transport Plan. A majority of the cabinet has indicated that it sees some merit in the plans.

Norway also wants to stop selling cars that run on petrol or diesel from 2025. Norwegians will have to look for alternatives, such as electric cars, from that year onwards. To promote the purchase of an electric car, residents of Norway receive tax breaks. The measure helps, because in no other European country are sales of electric cars as high as in the Nordic country, relative to the number of inhabitants. Some 15 per cent of all passenger cars newly registered are electric.

As a further step towards sustainability, Norway also wants to ensure that all ships and ferries become emission-free. That measure is likely to be introduced from 2030.
