Following in the footsteps of Scania DAF and TNO have now also demonstrated platooning on public roads
. Two lorries were driven yesterday on the N270 in Helmond. The first
truck was driven normally, but the second lorry was driving entirely
automatically, meaning the driver did not have to do anything.

The
automated 2-Truck Platooning is set to be operational on public
roads. To this end, TNO is working on a five-year programme designed to enable efficient, economical,
clean and safe road transport. This programme covers not
only technology and safety, but also regulatory and logistical integration.
TNO and DAF are collaborating closely on the development of 2-Truck Platooning.
The aim is to have both truck combinations drive as close together as possible
, with a distance of 1 second between them. In this way, a
10 per cent fuel saving will be achieved.
