Meal delivery service Foodora may start delivering drones with drones in the future. In Melbourne, a drone from Foodora has already delivered the first order.

The meal service has teamed up with Australian company IE Digital to develop the first drone. The very first drone delivered a lunch meal weighing about six hundred grams. The drone covered a distance of about 250 metres to its final destination. IE Digital and Foodora say the drone can deliver a package weighing up to one kilo. More drones will be tested in the future.

According to foodora's CEO Eduardo Goes, the drone can easily reach remote locations and may offer a solution in bad weather conditions. The CEO is enthusiastic and wants to see if there are more possibilities and says he plans to investigate. Vincent Hosman, Country Manager Netherlands of Foodora, is not yet sure whether the Dutch branch of the company also wants to deploy the drones for orders. "Safety comes first and in the Netherlands there are strict rules for deploying drones," he said.

US pizza chain Domino's claimed last month to be the very first company to succeed in delivering pizza with a drone. Domino's has already announced that in future they would like to see people in the Netherlands being able to order pizzas with a drone as well.
