The number of parcels delivered last year increased by 103 per cent. In the busiest year ever, delivery drivers managed to deliver the majority of parcels the next day.
This is according to figures from shipping platform Sendcloud. 103 per cent more parcels were sent via the platform in 2020 than in 2019. An explosive increase in parcel volume was seen as early as March. The closing of shops in December led to a peak with a tripling (+202 per cent) of parcel volume. The busiest day already took place in November: on Cyber Monday, a whopping 271 per cent more parcels went into the post.

'4 in 5 parcels delivered on time'
Although volume skyrocketed, 83 per cent of parcels could be delivered the next day. On average, the delivery time per parcel was 1.25 days. In December, the percentage delivered within a day dropped to 74.3 per cent.
In corona time, by the way, consumers are showing more patience. During the first lockdown, consumers were willing to wait 5.4 days for their orders. Normally, that does not exceed four days.
