Picnic delivers throughout Utrecht

Online supermarket Picnic will now deliver from two logistics hubs throughout Utrecht. The super is so successful in Leidsche Rijn, where it had been operating since April, that it has decided to accelerate the expansion of its delivery area.

“We begonnen een paar weken geleden in Leidsche Rijn met het doel ervaring op te doen in Utrecht en vanaf vandaag is Picnic beschikbaar in heel Utrecht”, aldus mede-oprichter Michiel Mulle rover de uitrol. “Er werd zo positief op gereageerd door klanten dat we besloten hebben versneld uit te rollen naar de rest van de stad.”
 
Ten thousand customers in nine months
Picnic werd vorig jaar gelanceerd in Amersfoort. Binnen negen maanden tijd heeft het 10 duizend klanten aan zich weten te binden, zo liet de supermarkt vandaag weten. Onduidelijk is of Picnic uiteindelijk streeft naar landelijke dekking. Wel liet mede-oprichter Frederik Nieuwenhuys eerder weten dat er op termijn waarschijnlijk een tweede distributiecentrum bijkomt op de as Amsterdam-Den Bosch. Als de groei van Picnic doorzet, zou de online super namelijk uit het huidige distributiecentrum in Nijkerk groeien.
