Picnic is looking for hundreds of new employees to cope with the peak rush in distribution centres and delivery. These people will not be laid off immediately when the corona crisis subsides; Picnic expects the rush to continue after that.

Speaking to Sprout, spokesperson Ruben Vermijs says Picnic is at maximum capacity every day. Every day, as many new users sign up as used to be added in a week. Picnic customers can order up to a week in advance. Those delivery slots are claimed immediately upon release, Vermijs notes. Orders are also larger. Customers order about a third more than usual.

The online supermarket is looking to recruit hundreds of new people to cope with the rush, with Picnic planning to employ them for the longer term. "We are always looking for new people. Our growth was already constrained by supply."
