The cabinet wants to tackle the economic crisis with a comprehensive package of measures. However, these investments that were presented on Budget Day are not enough to help the Netherlands recover, says Transport en Logistiek Nederland (TLN).
On Budget Day, the cabinet presented, among other things, a third support package, a National Growth Fund, tax cuts and plans to bring forward maintenance in infrastructure. For instance, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management will allocate an accelerated €1.9 billion for the maintenance and replacement of roads, railways, waterways and dykes in the coming years.
According to TLN, this national budget disappoints. TLN hopes that more budget will be freed up to tackle overdue maintenance of bridges and viaducts. It also advocates additional investment in a number of key transport routes, such as the A1, A12, A15, A58 and A67. These are needed to secure the Netherlands' position as Europe's gateway, the industry association said.
Both TLN and evofenedex insist on a sustainable solution to the nitrogen problem. With this budget, it would still be unclear whether the measures announced would provide the required nitrogen space. If that nitrogen space is not released in time, it will stand in the way of economic recovery.
