Red je Pakketje is moving to a larger distribution centre in Amsterdam. Following its acquisition by Swedish Instabox, the last-mile player is due for a bigger location. The aim is to grow by 300 per cent this year.

The new building at Gyroscoopweg 6 in Amsterdam covers just under 5,000 square metres and is fully electric with a scalable charging plaza. From 1 July, Red je Pakketje will deliver from here with electric delivery vans. In the first year, the company expects to cover over one million electric kilometres, and that number should increase further thereafter. The location offers room for 400 jobs.

"Red je Pakketje's ambition is to grow 300 per cent this year," says COO Tijs van Driel, "This includes new locations as well as larger distribution centres, so we are very happy with this move. Gyroscoopweg is the ideal green growth location for us."

Computer simulations for new location

Red je Pakketje says it has learned a lot from the recently opened location in Arnhem. That knowledge has been applied for the distribution centre in Amsterdam. "Think smart charging and maximum route lengths we can plan," CTO Arjan van den Bos explains. "And also think, for example, about specific driving training for drivers." The parcel company uses computer simulations to calculate where best to open new distribution centres and from where the most green kilometres can be made. After Arnhem, the choice fell on Amsterdam. Van den Bos: "In the coming months, we will open even more distribution centres based on computer simulations."

Takeover by Instabox

In May, Red je Pakketje announced its acquisition by Swedish Instabox. Instabox is also active in parcel delivery and calls itself a next-gen tech company. The new owner has big plans for parcel lockers; three thousand lockers are to be built in the Netherlands over the next two years where consumers can collect their parcels.
