Shell will support cargo platform InstaFreight for European growth. German startup InstaFreight received growth capital from Shell Ventures, the oil company's investment arm.

InstaFreight operates as a digital platform that connects carriers and shippers. Shippers can book their transport via InstaFreight and then track their cargo in real time. The Berlin-based company believes that digital tools can "disrupt" the transport industry.

"We are very proud to have acquired a strong global player like Shell as our investor and partner. With the additional funds, we can continue our rapid growth, further improve our technology and make our services available to more shippers and carriers across Europe," commented Philipp Ortwein, co-founder and managing director of InstaFreight.

In 2017, InstaFreight already raised €8 million in an initial investment round. The startup expanded to Poland in autumn 2019. A further rollout to Italy, Spain and the Benelux countries is planned in the short term.
