Convenience serves man. Bert-Jan van der Beek, Spar owner in Vuren, must also have thought so. He came up with ordering groceries via Whatsapp. From 2016, his customers can order groceries via the app for mobile phones. The groceries will be delivered directly to customers' homes within the hour.

The big advantage for the entrepreneurs is that it is a very small-scale investment. Buying a smartphone is enough to get orders in. Bert-Jan van der Beek told distrifood.nl that he sees many advantages with the new way of ordering: "It is an accessible way of shopping, which brings us even closer to the consumer. Spar is doing well online, but we think we can add something more with this service."

Customer details minimum

When customers order their groceries, they have to provide their address and postal code on the first order. All subsequent orders will thereby be delivered to the right address automatically. Customers order via Whatsapp and get a thumbs-up when the order is confirmed. "We aim to deliver within 60 minutes. Should it take longer, due to staffing levels for example, we will let the customer know." Initially, the service will only be available to residents of Vuren and Dussen so that deliveries can be delivered on time. From April, the Spar entrepreneur plans to expand the service further.

Free delivery

There are no extra charges for the service. Only for orders up to 15 euros, the Spar entrepreneurs charge delivery costs.
