SSI Schäfer is demonstrating a new shuttle system suitable for handling plastic totes or boxes weighing up to 35 kilograms at the ICT and Logistics 2016 trade fair.
The scalable single-level shuttle system is called Cuby and consists of matched components: a rack structure containing 1 shuttle per storage level, 1 or 2 lifts in the front zone, a maintenance platform with crane at the rear and a control unit.
For the technical performance of the entire system, the execution and speed of the lift is particularly crucial. SSI Schäfer therefore uses a double load take-up device so that a bin or box can be taken up and dispensed simultaneously. This allows for maximum double play, ensuring a throughput of some 400 doubles per shuttle per hour. Depending on customer needs, the Cuby can also be equipped with two shuttles per aisle, doubling the capacity to 800 doubles per hour. "These are figures that are achieved over time and do not just represent peak performance," says responsible product developer Dr Max Winkler.
According to SSI Schäfer, fewer sensors and controllers on the shuttle vehicle and load handling device are required due to an innovative division of labour between the rack and shuttle. The processes in the Cuby are controlled by SSI Schäfer's logistics software WAMAS. The software controls, monitors and optimises the spectrum of logistics processes and is able to adapt to customer needs.
