Despite the European regulation on driving and rest times stating that the daily rest time may be enjoyed in the cab of the truck, more and more countries want to fine sleeping in the cab.
Germany, Belgium and France have announced measures to fine spending weekly rest in the cab. In Germany, there are plans to charge €60 per hour for the employee and €180 per hour for the employer for each hour spent sleeping in the cab. A final decision on this will be made by the end of March.
Belgium and France already have high fines for sleeping on the lorry. 1,800 euros must be paid immediately in Belgium, otherwise the vehicle will be immobilised. In France, drivers can even face imprisonment and a fine of up to 30,000 euros.

Interest association evofenedex stresses to its members that only daily and reduced weekly rest may be spent in the vehicle. In addition, the interest association recommends having conclusive records of activity and rest when drivers drive through France. Problems can be avoided this way.
