Barely a month after entering the Belgian market, warehouse platform Stockspots has secured sixty locations. The Airbnb for warehousing is being welcomed with open arms by our southern neighbours. "This took us months in the Netherlands."
Stockspots is teaming up with Montea to tap the Belgian market, with the property player offering Stockspots not only a financial investment, but also access to its network and knowledge of the Belgian market.
Coen de Lange, co-founder of Stockspots, states in a press release that the Belgian market is responding enthusiastically to the initiative: "Whereas it took us months in the Netherlands to build up such a large network, the connection in Belgium is proceeding very quickly, partly due to Montea's support. Warehouse managers see the concept as a welcome solution to the strong fluctuation in warehouse capacity." As early as this autumn, Stockspots expects to have a supply of 100 warehouses with available space.
Flexible warehousing
In Belgium, 20 to 30 per cent of warehouse space is said to be available for temporary storage. This space is offered via Stockspots through a pay-per-use formula. The online platform matches parties that have storage space available with parties that need extra storage space (temporarily). In addition, it handles invoicing internally, and users on the platform get real-time stock and shipment information and fullfilment services can be purchased.
'Space is becoming scarce'
Peter Demuynck, cco of Montea sees the sustainability of the warehousing market in particular as growth potential. "Our country no longer has much leeway when it comes to creating additional physical storage space. Space is becoming scarce. And so we are forced to optimise existing space much more and better. A higher utilisation rate of existing warehouse space is positive for everyone."
