TGW celebrates its fiftieth anniversary this week. The intralogistics specialist developed from manufacturer to global system integrator over fifty years.
TGW was founded in 1969 in Wels, Austria, where it produced oderpicking carts, wheelbarrows and heavy-duty trailers with a dozen employees. In 1970, TGW developed its first conveyor belt. In thefollowing years, TGW focused exclusively on intralogistics. The range was gradually expanded to include products such as storage and retrieval systems(AS/RS), conveyor and storage systems.
System Integrator
Over the past decades, TGW went through a strategic change; from manufacturer to system integrator. Today, the company is not just a supplier, but overall contractor for the design and implementation of logistics solutions, for clients such as Zalando, Adidas and Skechers.
TGW has branches in Europe, the United States and China. The company has 3,500 employees and posted a turnover of €719.6 million in the fiscal 2018/2019 year. In June 2016, TGW opened a Benelux office in Oud-Gastel, West Brabant. The Benelux team has more than 40 employees.
Foundation
TGW's future has been laid down in a foundation. Founder Ludwig Szinicz wanted to make sure that TGW would remain an independent company. He therefore set up the TGW Future Private Foundation in 2004 and donated all his shares to the foundation. As a foundation, TGW cannot be sold, and two-thirds of the profits must also be reinvested in the company.
