Administrative problems at the Central Office for Driving Licences (CBR) have forced several hundred truck drivers to sit at home. They can now use an emergency procedure on the initiative of Transport and Logistics Netherlands (TLN).

1,200 drivers temporarily out of work

Drivers must have medical check-ups every five years before their licences are renewed. People with health problems must be examined more often. Due to a new automation system at CBR, this examination takes longer than expected.

In 2018, some 1,200 drivers were therefore forced to leave work. They could not practise their profession for several days to weeks. Currently, 20 drivers are sitting at home, waiting for their renewal, according to TLN.

Emergency procedure

CBR earlier warned that the problems with the new system will continue this year too, but now industry association TLN has come up with an emergency procedure together with CBR to prevent drivers from not being allowed on the road.

Drivers facing long waiting times can contact the industry association. They will then still be helped by CBR within 24 hours.
