A transport company from Amersfoort has to pay a fine of 378,000 euros for violating the Foreigners' Employment Act (Wav). In addition, a truck and bank accounts of the company have been seized.
An investigation by the Inspectorate SZW revealed that the transport company had nine Turkish people working as truck drivers without a work permit. In addition, 18 unknown workers were also driving for the company. The demand of the Inspectorate SZW to disclose the identity of these workers was not complied with.
The Amersfoort-based company had no staff on its payroll. According to the inspectorate, the company pretended during the investigation that it was hiring the drivers from a Bulgarian company. Enquiries with the Bulgarian authorities revealed that this company had not existed for years.
The company subsequently received a fine of 216,000 euros for violating the Wav. The supervisor received a further fine of 162,000 euros for 'directing this prohibited behaviour'. In addition, the Inspectorate SZW seized a truck and bank accounts to ensure that the fine imposed could be recovered from the transport company.
