Tony's Chocolonely is to ship its chocolate bars to the United States in a clean and climate-neutral way. The chocolate producer is taking part in the GoodShipping Programme to do so.
In a press release, Tony's Chocolonely states that it aims to be climate-positive. "We have set ourselves a goal for 2018 to have a carbon-neutral 'bean to bar' chain. This ambition will be extended further to be climate-positive by 2020 - meaning we absorb more CO2 from the atmosphere than we emit," says Femke Lotgerink, chain editor at Tony's Chocolonely.
Sustainable marine biofuel
By participating in the GoodShipping Program, tony's Chocolonely will henceforth transport its bars on ships that run on sustainable marine biofuel instead of fossil fuel oil. "While it may seem difficult or even impossible for many companies to reduce or avoid the CO2 emissions from sea transport, we at Tony's Chocolonely are proud to be shipping all our bars to the US green through the GoodShipping Program starting this year."
