TransMission opened a new transhipment point in Bergen op Zoom last weekend. The partnership of ten Dutch carriers had outgrown its existing DC due to the growing flow of goods between the Netherlands and other Benelux countries. The new building has a transhipment area of 3,500 square metres and has fifteen docks.

TransMission started in 2006 as a delivery service for Zeeland and West Brabant with a 1,100-square-metre distribution centre. In 2008, 2010 and 2013, the company was already forced to expand. "Initially, we were very happy to be able to enlarge the old building to 1,300 square metres of handling space within the existing possibilities," explains managing director Peter Tjalma. "But from the moment we extended our Dutch service formula one-to-one to Belgium, the flow of goods between the Netherlands and the other two Benelux countries increased explosively. So explosively that employees in Bergen op Zoom often had to perform the greatest feats of strength to get it all out on time. So as far as they are concerned, the commissioning of this new facility comes not a moment too soon."

With the new distribution centre, TransMission can guarantee that all goods offered by partners reach their destinations in the Benelux within 24 hours. This is partly made possible by partners' efforts, Tjalma said. "The fact that Bergen op Zoom was able to grow so much in significance is also the result of the efforts of all our partners, as a result of which our total volume within TransMission has been firmly on the rise in recent years. This makes it increasingly easy to drive with whole trailers directly between the mutual depots."

The new facility will create 60 jobs, including 40 jobs for drivers who will handle more than 1,800 shipments daily within the operating area.
