Transport prices rose by a whopping 10.4 per cent in the second quarter of 2015 from a quarter earlier. Prices reached a record high of 104.9. That is the highest index since measurement began in 2008, according to the Transport Market Monitor by Transporeon and Capgemini Consulting.

Capgemini said the figures show the economic recovery in Europe well. "If we still consider the very low diesel prices, the result is even more remarkable," said Erik van Dort, supply chain director.

However, the capacity index did drop considerably last quarter. The index dropped 34.8 per cent to a figure of 67.8. That is the lowest level since the second quarter of 2011. According to Peter Förster, managing director at Transporeon, shippers are feeling the effects of these developments. "They are struggling when looking for logistics service providers for their transport orders."
