That the logistics industry is moving further and further out of the crisis is also evident from the sales figures of trucks and trailers. The figures rose in 2015 and forecasts for 2016 and 2017 are also good.
In the Dutch market, an estimated 14,000 trucks will be sold in 2016. That is an increase of 5 per cent compared to a year ago and the highest level since 2008. The figures were recently presented in ING Economics Department's Asset Vision.
Replace
The year 2015 was the first year where an increase in the number of trucks was heard again. The average age of Dutch trucks did not increase for the first time in years. As the age of trucks has increased in recent years, this offers opportunities for equipment replacement. There are still many Euro V trucks from 2007 and 2008 that need replacement in large numbers.
Trailer market
The trailer market also seems to have climbed out of a slump. After a long period of contraction, there has been 50 per cent growth in the past two years. Although this growth will not continue in 2016, demand for new trailers, at 13,000 units, remains at a good level.
