Transport companies should experience less financial damage from traffic jams in the future by deploying 'truck spotters', an initiative of the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment, EVO, TLN and regional authorities.

The spotters will record during rush hour which trucks are in traffic jams and which company these trucks come from. They will then calculate alternative driving times or routes for this freight in consultation with the companies.

Traffic jams are said to cost Dutch society around €650 million annually. The initiative with truck spotters should ensure that the rush hour becomes less crowded and the economic damage is reduced as a result. It would also reduce the burden on the environment.

39 million euros for transport solutions
The project with the spotters is one of the initiatives launched by the cooperating parties. These include the multi-day traffic forecast plan, which allows companies to predict the best driving times. Solutions for inner-city transport are also being sought. A total of €39 million was allocated for these and other projects.
