Uber is getting into the business of delivering parcels. The company has developed an application programming interface (API) for UberRush, Uber's delivery service. Online sellers can use the API to submit parcels to the taxi company for quick distribution.
One of Uber's customers is Google. UberRush will pick up parcels from shops connected to Google Express and then deliver them to the customer. Google Express is the part of the internet giant that ensures there is a link between physical shops and online orderers. UberRush is used to get parcels to customers quickly. It is not the first time than UberRush and Google are helping each other. Google previously invested a quarter of a billion dollars in the company.
Previous plans
Uber wanted to enter the parcel market before, but held off until recently. After a test period, Uber is going to launch the delivery service anyway. On its website, the company writes: "When customers are waiting, every minute counts. UberRush helps avoid high charges in the busiest times of the day." UberRush has been on the market in the US since October and thousands of local businesses in global cities such as Chicago, San Francisco and New York are already using the service.
Integration
Uber's delivery service aims to integrate the API into large companies' existing infrastructure apps so they can choose to have parcels delivered via UberRush. The service is available from as little as 5 euros.
