Better cooperation between all parties should ensure completely emission-free inner city supply in the city of Utrecht by 2025.
Alderman Lot van Hooijdonk and directors of industry organisations TLN, evofenedex and CMU signed a framework of agreements in which cooperation is central. For example, all parties must work together to create more space for shoppers in the city centre.
The Utrecht city council is also actively involved in thinking about how best to combine forces. Anyone entering the city with a clean vehicle will be given more time to unload than someone arriving in a polluting vehicle, according to a new council proposal. Better thought is also being given to the number of vehicles: hubs outside the city centre should allow orders to be transferred to small vans, boats or cargo bikes.
Expanding pedestrian area
The city council will also vote this autumn on extending the pedestrian area from 1 January 2018. In concrete terms, this would mean that supply times would be adjusted and that a new enforcement system would no longer allow cars or vans without dispensation to simply enter the city.
In addition to the agreements that are already concrete from 2025, new measures are also being tested to make everything run even more smoothly In laboratories, experiments include stop-and-drop spots, where catering wholesalers such as Sligro and Gepu can recharge their trucks.
