After Jumbo, trade union FNV has now also given Albert Heijn an ultimatum to talk about a better collective agreement by distribution centres. If the supermarket chain has not responded to the ultimatum by Friday afternoon, actions will follow.
According to FNV, the around 4,500 employees covered by the Ah Logistics collective labour agreement deserve a structural wage increase of around 900 euros a year. AH's current collective bargaining proposals would lead to a more uncertain future for workers at the distribution centres.
Earlier, unions also sent a similar threat to Jumbo. The supermarket chain announced that it was "baffled" by the ultimatum. Jumbo suggested to wait with a wage offer until the outcome of other collective bargaining negotiations are known, such as that of AH Logistics. This would ensure more equality in the industry. Jumbo employees responded to this by taking punctuality actions and working to the health and safety standard. This could cause problems for the supply of Jumbo shops. "Actually, it is shameful that the two largest supermarket chains in the Netherlands do not want to share their nice profits with the employees," said union negotiator Özcan Colak.
