Already from March 2015, the rules for determining the maximum authorised mass (MTM) of a truck or combination will be tightened. This will allow trucks or combinations to carry tonnes less than before in some cases. The road transport industry called for an introduction on 1 July, but it will now be four months earlier.
No summing of axle loads
The stricter rules stem from the weight determination procedure set out in European Regulation 1230/2012. The Dutch Road Transport Agency will enforce this procedure from March, which means that when determining the maximum authorised mass (MTM), the various axle loads may not simply be added together. The correct weight distribution across the entire vehicle must be taken into account. The MTM is recorded on the vehicle registration certificate.
