Companies can apply again from today for the election of the Safest Warehouse of the Netherlands. For the twelfth year in a row, organisers such as BMWT, Sectorinstituut Transport en Logistiek and evofenedex are looking for warehouses that are consciously concerned with health and safety on the shop floor.
Netherlands have more than 100,000 companies with a warehouse. According to the initiating organisations, safety awareness in these warehouses is pretty much on par. More and more employees are said to be aware that safety and health on the shop floor contribute to employee satisfaction, efficiency and productivity. The company that manages to combine these topics, with a balanced approach to the pillars of people, process and technology has a chance of winning the Safest Warehouse Award.
Participating companies can receive a bronze, silver or gold rating in two categories - large warehouses and small warehouses - which will be determined by the jury, led by René de Koster of Erasmus University, based on the score on criteria such as obligations, monitoring, safety on the shop floor, management safety requirements and working climate.
Last year, Janssen Biologics and Abbot Biologicals won gold in the small warehouses category (less than 25 warehouse employees). DHL Supply Chain and Schneider Electric received gold in the large warehouses category. It was the first time that the jury awarded two companies with gold in both categories. "As a jury, we see the level of entries going up every year, while the warehouses are less and less comparable," explained jury member Jan Hommes, also director of the BMWT. "Between a retailer's warehouse and a pharmaceutical company, there are now big differences. This is why we decided to work with three categories: gold, silver and bronze. This gives the participating companies a better picture of where they stand in terms of safety."
Registration for this year runs until 1 June 2017. The results will be announced during the Day of the Warehouse. You can register for the election here.
