Shippers’ organisation EVO and exporters’ association
Fenedex want the government to do everything in its power to reduce the growing number of kilometres spent in traffic jams as quickly as possible
.
A report published by the government last week reveals that, due to traffic jams, Dutch people spend 57.6 million hours more each year in their cars, vans or
lorries than they would have liked. This figure was calculated for the
first half of this year and represents a 3.6 per cent increase compared with
2015.
Investments
A national coalition of 31 transport organisations had previously stated that the government must invest more money in improving the infrastructure. These additional investments are intended to minimise economic damage.
Today , the House of Representatives will debate the Dutch
infrastructure with the minister. In a letter, EVO and Fenedex have made an urgent
request to the government to invest more money
. Among other things, the Utrecht ring road needs to have its capacity increased. The Hooipolder A27–A59 junction and the N35 near Raalte West also need to be
upgraded. Furthermore, according to the organisations, a solution must be
for the traffic jams at the junction of the A30 and the A1 near Barneveld.
’s requestsA request has also come from Zeeland to build a railway line
between Terneuzen and Ghent in Belgium, and to expand the lock capacity at
Kornwerderzand. EVO and Fenedex support these requests.
