Domino's Pizza has developed a robot that can take over the job of the pizza courier in the future. The DRU (Domono's Robotic Unit) delivers at a speed of 20 kilometres per hour and keeps the pizzas warm in the meantime.

The DRU was developed at the DLAB, a lab set up by Domino's to encourage innovation. At 20 kilometres per hour, the robot can drive on the pavement as well as the bike path. A sensor avoids obstacles on the road. One compartment of the robot ensures that pizza stays hot, while another compartment ensures that drinks stay cold. The robot uses GPS and Google Maps to find the customer's address. Once arrived at the address, the customer can open the compartments using the unique code received via text message.

Domino's does not expect the robot to hit the streets anytime soon. For now, the robot still serves as a prototype and should show consumers what possibilities await them in the future.
