Uber has launched an app that allows transport companies to easily find freight. The app, available in the United States since last week, should significantly reduce empty kilometres.

"We take the search work out of finding and booking a freight. That is usually a driver's most stressful task," Uber said in a statement. "What previously required multiple phone calls and hours of work can now be achieved at the touch of a button."

Uber also expects to accommodate drivers in payment. Transport companies have to wait at least 30 days for a payment. "We have also heard stories of drivers who had to wait more than 10 hours for a load, without receiving compensation for it," he said. Uber Freight promises to pay within a few days. "When things don't go as planned or drivers have to wait longer than expected, we pay for that too," Uber said.

Uber Freight shows how the emerging sharing economy also affects logistics DHL recently published a report in which it listed seven applications of the sharing economy in logistics. Read the article here: What can logistics do with the sharing economy? 7 examples.
