Vomar Voordeelmarkt is also stepping into the online grocery market. The supermarket has set up an online platform for delivering and collecting groceries. A striking step, as Vomar pulled the plug on an earlier online shop a year and a half ago.

The plan for the online shop became known after Vomar posted a vacancy for an e-commerce employee. The new platform is now only available to a number of Vomar employees. They are testing the online shop. Soon, a group of customers will be involved in the testing phase.

Disappointing results previous webshop
Vomar seems well prepared to take to the air, especially since it closed the doors of its online shop in August 2014 after disappointing results. This webshop offered perishable food products delivered free of charge from one shop. Vomar director Aart van Haren believes the cause of the closure was the platform's outdated technology, which meant the performance to customers was not good enough as a result.

Slowly expanding
Van Haren told De Levensmiddelenkrant that Vomar is now aiming for a flawless online shop that offers pick-up and delivery. If the online shop is a success, the supermarket aims to deliver throughout Vomar's market area. However, Van Haren stresses that this will not happen all at once, but gradually.
