WE Fashion is partly outsourcing its logistics to online shop and fulfilment player Zalando. The German online shopping giant handles the logistics of WE clothing sold via Zalando.
According to Financieele Dagblad, WE Fashion hopes to save costs by having its logistics handled by Zalando Fulfilment Solutions. With Wehkamp, WE Fashion previously concluded a similar agreement.
Sellers required to work with local logistics partners
WE Fashion has long sold via Zalando, but then sent the orders itself to customers in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany, but Zalando requires fashion brands selling on its platform to work with local logistics partners. That proved relatively expensive for WE Fashion.
"It is cheaper and more efficient to outsource," WE Fashion's director Joris Aperghis told the FD. "We now only have to deal with our stock at Zalando. That has to be big enough."
Zalando Fulfilment Solutions
Zalando launched Fulfilment Solutions in mid-2017. Fashion brands that arrange fulfilment through Zalando place their products in the retailer's warehouse. Zalando handles order picking, packing, shipping and returns processing. The German company receives commission per item shipped.
More than a year after its launch, 21 fashion brands have outsourced their logistics to Zalando Fulfilment Solutions, which is now available in seven countries. WE Fashion is considering expansion to other countries where Fulfilment Solutions is also available. Aperghis: "We are about to start in France and Austria is on our list for the future."
