Road transport will also get more expensive in 2019. Due to a rise in wage and fuel costs, companies will pay 4.7 to 5.8 per cent more for road transport next year.
This is according to evofenedex in its report 'Cost developments in road transport'. The industry association bases itself on figures from Eurostat, CBS, Panteia and price quotations from suppliers, importers and manufacturers.
Wages continue to rise
The rise in road transport costs already started this year. In 2018, wage costs climbed 5.7 per cent. For next year, evofenedex expects that increase to continue. "Shippers and hauliers should take into account that a final increase in wages will be implemented next year."
Fluctuations in fuel price
Fuel prices increased by as much as 8.4 per cent since 1 January 2018. Evofenedex says it is difficult to estimate on an annual basis how much fuel costs will fall or rise. "Precisely because of these fluctuations, we advise shippers to make use of diesel clauses in contracts with the carrier, so that the shipper does not continue to pay the main price when prices fall."
