Wehkamp starts delivering parcels on the same day for an extra charge. Through the extra cost, the company wants to guarantee that the service is available to everyone. Whether the surcharge will be dropped in the long run is not yet known.

Wehkamp recently opened a new warehouse and has since shifted its focus to same-day parcel delivery. Currently, it is only possible to have small orders such as clothes, cosmetics, toys, home accessories and small electronics delivered on the same day. If the order is made before noon, the parcel will be delivered as early as the evening.

Trial
To make use of this service, additional charges will be arranged. That it was unfeasible to deliver free of charge was already expected. Wehkamp reveals, "We are currently in the start-up phase and we are still extensively testing how this service works on a large scale. The fee of two euros in the test phase has been implemented to meet the demand for the service, and to make the service available to everyone. This is very important to us."

Evaluate
Following the company's evaluation, it should become clear whether the extra cost is a barrier for customers or not. At an earlier stage, Wehkamp let it be known that it wanted to introduce same-day delivery at no extra cost. Whether the company has backtracked from that statement is not known.
