Truck drivers will not be allowed to drive in some European countries next Thursday, 5 May, on Ascension Day. That is when driving bans will apply in Germany, France, Luxembourg, Austria and Switzerland.

The times of the ban vary from country to country. According to shippers' organisation EVO, the following times are involved:

Germany: a ban from 00h00 to 22h00;
France: a ban from Wednesday night 10pm to Thursday night 10pm;
Luxembourg: in Luxembourg, the driving ban depends on your destination. If you are travelling to Germany, there is a driving ban from 11.30pm. If you are travelling to France, you are banned from driving at 9.30pm on Wednesday evening. The ban applies to both destinations until 9.45pm on Thursday evening;
Austria: the same ban applies here as in Germany (00:00 to 22:00);
Switzerland: in this country, the driving ban lasts longer. The ban starts at 00.00, then applies until 24.00 the next day, followed by a night driving ban until 05.00.
