Xenos is more successful in Germany than in the Netherlands. At our eastern neighbours, the company achieved a sales increase of twenty per cent over the year 2015. In addition, the number of shops in Germany continues to rise. As the retailer expects to grow further, the distribution centre in Waalwijk is being expanded.
The expansion of the distribution centre in Waalwijk involves an investment of more than 30 million euros, the Financieel Dagblad reports.
Sales in Germany in 2015 increased by twenty per cent, with several new shops being opened in the process. The Germans now have 62 Xenos stores. Globally, there are 76 Xenos shops. The webshop, which has now been online for more than a year, accounts for about five per cent of total sales.
Fewer jobs
Despite the investments being made and rising German sales, jobs are still disappearing at Xenos. As the Dutch branch saw sales fall sharply, a total of 250 jobs are disappearing. This follows the big clean-up that parent company Blokker initiated in 2014. In 2015, 400 jobs already disappeared at the retail chain as a result.
Modernisation
Xenos is trying to halt declining sales and is cutting jobs as a result. In addition, the company has started modernising. As previous investments in modernising the company have not yet fully worked, it is reinvesting again.
