Xenos is not leaving the Waalwijk distribution centre it previously wanted to close completely after all. Supermarket chain SPAR is still occupying part of the automated warehouse, but Xenos will occupy the remaining space in the building.

In June, it was announced that SPAR wanted to expand its own distribution centre to include Xenos' adjacent warehouse. The latter - by selling 110 shops to Casa - was due to leave both the distribution centre and head office in October.

Xenos and SPAR will rent DC

It now appears that the two parties will jointly rent the XXL DC. The logistics centre has a total area of 64 thousand square metres, of which 15 thousand square metres will be owned by SPAR. Xenos will occupy the remaining part of the building and also open its headquarters there.

Why Xenos decided to rent the premises from investment company HB Capital after all is still unclear. It is known, however, that more Xenos shops remain than expected. Initially, Belgian Casa was supposed to take over 110 of the 170 shops. In the end, it waived 15 locations. The 75 remaining Xenos shops are in the hands of the Blokker family.

Wider and deeper product range at SPAR

SPAR plans to move into the premises in March 2019. The supermarket formula expects the expansion to improve efficiency and offer a wider and deeper range.
