Logistics service providerXPO Logistics is a transport partner of the Tour de France for the 37th year in a row. The tour involves 46 trucks and 55 drivers, carrying 360 tonnes of materials.
In the coming tour weeks, some 12 million spectators will see the 198 riders compete for the maillot jaune - the yellow winner's jersey. Companies that want to become partners of the Tour de France have to submit an annual proposal that falls within the requirements in terms of logistics and safety. XPO Logistics has managed to do so since 1981. The company is responsible for transporting materials used during the Tour de France, including fences, stages, sponsor material and paint to park the course and finish line.
Even after 37 years, XPO still sees the logistics operation around the Tour de France as a challenge, the company says. Consequently, preparations for the event took five months. "The Tour de France is always an exciting challenge for us," said Troy Cooper, chief executive officer of XPO Logistics Europe. "We have almost four decades of experience to guide the organisers at this great event and support the athletes to do their best."
