Friesland Campina will drive no less than 1.5 million kilometres less each year. In doing so, it will reduce its CO2 emissions by 648,000 kilograms. The company will do this by shifting its distribution activities to one central distribution centre in Meppel.

Now, the distribution of the company's dairy products is still spread across four warehouses in Hoogeveen, Heerenveen, Meppel and Veendam. This is going to change. In Meppel, Friesland Campina is building a 31,000-square-metre distribution centre with 45,000 pallet spaces. It will concentrate the storage and transhipment of dairy products there.

The new distribution centre is located near the production sites in Meppel and Beilen. Gerard Menting, Corporate Director Real Estate on the choice of location: "From November onwards, various options in the region were thoroughly investigated, with Meppel ultimately being the deciding factor given its good accessibility by both road and water, the possibility of future expansion and its favourable central location in relation to our production sites. In addition, an important contribution will be made to the reduction of CO2 emissions".

FrieslandCampina is renting the distribution centre that offers space for 35 employees. The company will outsource the distribution of products.
