Fulfilment company Active Ants has doubled the capacity of order picking and storage system AutoStore. The Nieuwegein location now has 64,000 totes and 32 robots.
Co-founder Jeroen Dekker writes this on Active Ants' website. The AutoStore system consists of robots that drive over an aluminium framework and transport the totes of articles stored in it to the order picking stations. The e-fulfilment company says it now has the largest AutoStore in the Benelux.
Maximum capacity soon reached
Active Ants has been working with the goods-to-mansystem since 2015, when 30,000 totes, 16 robots and four gates were implemented. Within two years, Active Ants reached the system's maximum capacity, so in 2017 it commissioned system integrator Dematic to expand AutoStore. After a period of preparation, installation and testing, the system is now up and running.
Seasonality
Dekker: "With this expansion, we are ready for the next phase in our growth. We not only see growth in new customers, but also existing customers are still growing very fast. In addition, seasonal influences such as Christmas and Black Friday force us to set up a system that can handle large peaks."
