Unsold products from Amazon will now be donated to charity through a charity programme. With the new programme, Amazon is responding to the commotion that arose after it was revealed that it was destroying products on a large scale.

FBA Donations

Amazon has established the 'Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) Donations' programme to this end. This programme is aimed at third-party sellers using Amazon's logistics services.

From 1 September, excess stock from sellers in the US and UK will be donated to charities by default. If sellers do not want this, they can opt out of the programme.

Refrigerators, mattresses and furniture were destroyed

The scheme should make donating cheaper for sellers. Previously, it was often more advantageous to have products destroyed. This then happened on a large scale. Last year, it was revealed that the e-commerce giant in Germany and France was destroying hundreds of items every day, both returns and new products. These included products such as clothes and mobile phones, but also refrigerators, mattresses and furniture.
