Automation specialist Dematic introduces a micro-fulfillment solution for order processing from small warehouses. The solution is already being used at Meijer, a US-based retailer.
The micro-fulfillment solution is based on Dematic's existing technology, such as the Dematic Multishuttle and Goods-to-Person picking solution. The Dematic IQ software enables control over all data when integrating with other inventory and warehouse management systems and ERP. This connects all shops, distribution centres and offices through the same platform.
Dematic says it took only six months to develop the fulfilment solution. "We have automated the largest distribution centres in the world and now have an automation solution to also make the best use of small storage areas behind the shop," says CEO Hasan Dandashly.
The configurable micro-fulfillment solution can handle inventory capacity (SKU) and order volume from supermarkets and wholesalers, as well as from other retailers. The system is further suitable for retailers of auto parts, consumer electronics, sporting goods, apparel and industrial parts who want to make better use of available space.
