Following strikes at the distribution centre in Beverwijk, Etos staff have moved their actions to the head office. Around a hundred warehouse workers gather at Ahold Delhaize's head office. There, they put a pile of crumbs in front.
Etos staff received some pay increases in recent years, but not enough, they say. The employees are demanding 5 per cent more pay from 1 January. "The distribution workers were given crumbs, but now a big catch-up is needed to an income you can make a decent living on," reports union FNV, referring to the action in front of Ahold Delhaize's headquarters.
The strikes began on 19 December at the dc in Beverwijk, where some 240 Etos staff work. From Beverwijk, the drugstore chain supplies some five hundred shops in the Netherlands. According to FNV, many shops are now facing stock shortages. Etos says it is working hard to keep the shelves filled. According to a spokesperson, the products are distributed among the shops to ensure proportional distribution per shop.
