FNV has invited online supermarket Picnic by letter to discuss employees' salaries. The union wants Picnic to pay higher salaries for 'the hard work people do at Picnic'.

'Workload too high and underpaid'

In mid-December, FNV stated in Trouw that the working conditions at Picnic leave much to be desired. According to the union, the work pressure at Picnic is too high, pay is too low and working conditions are unsafe. "The free delivery has to be paid from somewhere. One of the reasons Picnic can do it cheaper than other supermarkets is because they underpay. Free delivery does not exist," argues Marianne Jekkers of FNV.

"Nonsense," founder Michiel Muller called the criticism. "As if we are a company where employees are exploited and succumb by the bunch. That is totally not the atmosphere you hear."

Invitation by letter

This is not the end of the matter for FNV. On Monday, the union invited the app only supermarket by letter to talk about wages. "As the collective agreement for supermarkets has been declared generally binding (AVV), all supermarkets falling under the scope of this collective agreement are obliged to apply it. This also applies to online supermarkets," reads the FNV message.
