A week after the hack at Bakker Logistics, all IT systems have been restarted. Due to the hack, with so-called ransomware, consumers found empty shelves at Albert Heijn last weekend.

On the night of 4-5 April, the logistics provider was hit by a hack with hostage software. In the process, the hacker wanted to restore access to the systems only after payment. As a result, the warehouses in Zeewolde, Tilburg and Heerenveen were left without software for a week.

Earlier, Bakker Logistic indicated that much could be solved manually, but that proved too optimistic. The logistics provider supplies cheese to Albert Heijn, among others. There, consumers found empty shelves last weekend. "We could no longer receive orders from customers," director Toon Verhoeven told NOS. "And in our warehouses we no longer knew where products were. These are very large warehouses, you don't go looking for a pallet. Also, we could no longer plan our transports. We have hundreds of trucks, that didn't go by hand either."

Whether Bakker Logistiek paid to restart the software, the director would not say. To NOS, he reports that a cause is still being sought. The company's security was basically in order. "But we like to learn from this crisis. It is a constant rat race between people who build our info systems and the criminals who want to bypass them."

Now that the systems have been restarted, Bakker Logistiek is working hard to fill the shelves again. According to an Albert Heijn spokesperson, the shops are restocked, but the online offer has not yet been fully updated.
