Jungheinrich has acquired a stake in robotics startup Magazino. With the investment, Jungheinrich aims to accelerate the expansion of its automated vehicle offering.
The two parties say they are entering into a broad strategic partnership. "Magazino is a young, highly innovative company with excellent experience in the field of navigation and control software for mobile automation," said Lars Brzoska, chairman of Jungheinrich's Board of Management. "This investment is in line with our strategy in the field of automation."
Mobile picking robot
Magazino launched a moile picking robot in 2014 that is able to intelligently navigate through the warehouse in the warehouse and pick the desired boxes. The system is used in warehouses of several online retailers and logistics providers, including Zalando. "By developing robots in this complex environment, Magazino has acquired a globally unique expertise, which we intend to expand and integrate into our Jungheinrich products together in the future," Brzoska said.
Growth market
Automation is one of the biggest growth drivers within intralogistics, according to Jungheinrich. This trend is driven by the continued strong growth of online commerce and the global shortage of skilled logistics staff, especially forklift drivers. The company expects double-digit growth in this segment in the coming years.
