Utrecht customers of parcel deliverer UPS are being served from a new sorting and delivery centre since this week. The new centre is 12000 square metres and can process 6800 parcels per hour.

It is UPS's largest parcel centre in the Netherlands - with a 225 per cent increase in parcels that can be processed compared to the previous location. In total, the parcel delivery company has 19 locations in the Netherlands, where it has operated since 1985.

'We see growing demand for our services from customers in the heart of the Netherlands,' said Tim Helsen, country manager UPS Netherlands in a press release. 'Increasing our capacity comes in response to that demand, and allows us to continue to reliably and efficiently connect businesses in the Utrecht region to opportunities around the world through UPS's smart global logistics network.'

The centre accounts for more than 240 additional jobs, the company expects to grow even more in the coming years. There is room for 120 vans, double the previous location. The new site is part of a multi-year plan to invest $2 billion through 2019 to grow UPS's logistics network in Europe.
